He was one of the strongest chess players in Peru in the 1950s. He was a winner of national championships.

In 1950, as part of the national team of Peru, he participated in the chess Olympiad . Speaking on the 3rd board, he played 15 games (there was no substitute member in the Peruvian team), of which he won 4, lost the same amount and 7 ended in a draw.
