In 1773, Hedwig von Fersen married Marshal Baron . In 1774, she took the maid of honor with Queen Sofia Magdalena of Denmark , reluctantly agreeing at the request of her husband, who wanted her to accept this position for financial reasons. Hedwig Eleanor was also a friend of the Princess of Holstein-Gottorp.

Hedwig Eleanor von Fersen was for many years one of the personal friends of King Gustav III . In 1779, she made an unsuccessful attempt to convince him to make peace with the widowed mother Louise of Prussia . But in the end, she became an opponent of Gustav III, when he began to demand support at the stormy assembly of estates for the continuation of the Russian-Swedish war and entered into an open conflict with the nobility , which opposed the war.
