History

In 1942, at the proposal of Academician Kanysh Satpayev , the Geological Museum was organized at the Institute of the Kazakh branch of the Academy of Sciences. The practical significance of the museum was to collect and preserve samples of ores and minerals. To date, a significant number of them have almost disappeared as a result of industrial development of the lands of Kazakhstan. Already in the first few years of its existence, the museum has taken a leading position among the geological museums of the former Soviet Union in the number and variety of exhibits. This is due to the intensive development of the bowels of the Kazakh SSR during the Great Patriotic War , which provided not only resources, but also valuable samples for research [1] .

In 1969, on the basis of geological collections of the Kazakh Institute of Mineral Raw Materials and Kazgeofiztrest, a permanent scientific and technical exhibition of the Ministry of Geology was organized.

In 1997, S.Zh. , Minister of Geology of Kazakhstan . Daukeev expressed an initiative to give the Exhibition the status of a full-fledged museum. This was done after a large-scale reconstruction and the updated Geological Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan received its first visitors on August 26, 1997, in the premises of the former Education House . The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. attended the opening ceremony of the museum . Nazarbayev and President of the Republic of Tatarstan M.Sh. Shaimiev [1] .

The museum has a salon selling precious stones and products that can be a good souvenir. The museum also organizes geological tours of the Zailiysky Alatau ridge. [2]

Exposition

The museum exposition is designed so that the visitor has the feeling of being in a dungeon. The effect is achieved through design and specific lighting. Entrance to the exhibition halls is carried out with the help of an elevator stylized as a mining crate. Stone walls, fragments of wooden lining, a trolley on rail tracks make it possible to imagine mining. At the end of the Small Hall, next to the relief map of the main mineral deposits of Kazakhstan, a bust of K. I. Satpayev, the founder of the Kazakhstan Geological School, creator and first president of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, is mounted on a high pedestal. [3]

In the Great Hall there is a collection of samples of minerals and ores that have been extracted from the bowels of Kazakhstan, as well as a unique collection of Kazakhstani agates. Oversized samples of ores and minerals from various deposits of the country are located on the podiums and cabinets throughout the hall area.
