Biography
Tii built his clan to the legendary king of Paphlagonia Pilemen , mentioned in the Iliad of Homer .
The reign of the Persian king Artaxerxes II was marked by a large number of revolts against the central government from the satraps of the western regions. He opposed the king and lord of Paphlagonia. With exhortation, a close relative on the maternal side of Datamin , the ruler of Cappadocia , was sent to him, but he could not achieve the goal. Tius decided to get rid of his cousin, and he was saved from death only by warning from his mother, who arrived with him in Paphlagonia. Then Datamun, together with Ariobarzan , the satrap of " Lydia , Ionia and the whole of Phrygia, " declared war on the rebel. Despite the subsequent apostasy of Ariobarzan, Datamn, "acting with unchanging perseverance, captured Tiy with his wife and children" and delivered them as prisoners to royal court. The satrap of Cappadocia arranged this event for Artaxerxes in a magnificent theatrical manner, and he was extremely pleased that “the famous king unexpectedly fell into his hands.” Datumn was generously awarded for his zeal, and Tii was thrown into prison. Dandamaev M.A. attributes these events to about 378 BC. e.
The ancient authors portray Tiy as a “man of great growth and a fierce appearance”, who loves to organize large feasts and does not want to refuse them even in prison.
