Biography
Born in the city of Dnipro on July 18 in 1936 in the family of a military man. He studied at a secondary school in the city of Chernivtsi, which he graduated with a gold medal. From 1954 to 1959 he studied at the geological faculty of Kiev State University. At the end I received a diploma with honors. After his graduation, Vyacheslav Mikhailovich worked in the Lviv and Central geological expeditions.
Scientific career
Vyacheslav Shestopalov was elected an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on April 14, 1995 in the specialties: geology, geophysics. [one]
Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1983), professor (1991), corresponding member of the NAS of Ukraine (1988), academician of the NAS of Ukraine (1995), deputy director for scientific work of the Institute of Geological Sciences (since 1984 ), Director of the Scientific and Engineering Center of Radiohydrogeoecological Polygon Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (since 1991), since 2004 - Academic Secretary of the Department of Earth Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The main results of basic research by academician Shestopalov are:
- development of theoretical foundations and methodological principles for studying the laws of water exchange in the hydrogeological structures of Ukraine;
- creation of new and improvement of known methods and techniques of hydrogeological research;
- identification and comprehensive studies of regional and local patterns of the formation of water exchange and groundwater resources in the main hydrogeological structures of Ukraine;
- studies of procedures for the formation of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of groundwater in Ukraine under the influence of technogenic phenomena associated with groundwater intakes, the Chernobyl disaster;
- identification and assessment of preferential ways of filtration and migration in the formation of groundwater;
- studies of the auto-rehabilitation abilities of the geological environment of contaminated territories;
- study of the patterns of formation of certain types of mineral waters, their classification features.
The main applied research results of Shestopalov are:
- regional study of the hydrogeological conditions of Ukraine, the creation of different scale hydrogeological maps, as the basis for exploratory and environmental studies;
- introducing into practice new ideas about the patterns of formation and territorial division of natural groundwater resources that are suitable for water supply, justification of promising opportunities to ensure the drinking needs of the population are indicated by quality water;
- a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the conditions and characteristics of regional and local pollution (including radioactive) of groundwater and the geological environment;
- the introduction of modern methods and technologies in order to reliably predict the state of quality and degree of groundwater depletion, the development of countermeasures for the effectiveness of their protection.
