Biography

Kelly Rickon was born on October 27, 1959 in the city of San Diego , California . She started rowing at the local club ZLAC, one of the oldest women's rowing clubs, founded in 1892. She was trained in Mission Bay located here. Initially, it was zagrebny, but then it was retrained into the steering.

She made her debut at the adult international level in the 1979 season, when she joined the main team of the American national team and performed at the World Championships in Bled - she finished six in the program of steering fours.

In 1980, she was selected for the Olympic team, assembled to participate in the Summer Olympic Games in Moscow , but the United States, along with several other Western countries, boycotted these competitions for political reasons. In compensation for missing the Olympics, Ricon was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal [1] .

In 1983 she visited the world championship in Duisburg , where she took fifth place in the program of twin steering fours.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, she was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1984 Los Angeles Home Olympics - being the helmsman of the four-seater double crew, which also included the rowers Ann Marden , Joan Lind , Lisa Rode and Virginia Gilder , showed the second result in the final, losing only to the crew from Romania at the finish line, and thereby won the silver Olympic medal. Soon after the end of these competitions, she completed her sports career.

Subsequently, she worked as a Development Officer at Point Loma Nazarin University in San Diego.
