Biography
She was born in New York in 1951 [4] . She first attracted attention at a young age, when the text of one of her early songs “Hair Of Spun Gold” was published in 1964 in the magazine “Broadside” [5] . Since 1966, Janice began performing in the New York clubs "Village Gate" and "Gaslight", performing simple rock ballads based on folk music .
His performance attracted the attention of record companies . The first result was the contract for the release of the single "Society's Child (Baby I've Been Thinking)". After the presentation of this work in a television program by Leonard Bernstein, Janice gained fame in the United States . Her musical confession about unhappy love between a white girl and a black boy turned out to be very mature and became the inspiration for creating a whole series of such sharp works. Her album "For All The Seasons Of Your Mind" achieved the greatest success.
After moving to California, Janice began writing works for other artists, returning to her solo career took place in 1971 with the release of the album “Present Company”. Her position in the music market was reinforced by her LP “Stars” [6] , which emphasized the singer’s personal style. The title songs from this album will later appear in many other versions, and the song “Jesse” by Roberta Flack will be included in the American Top 10 chart .
On the 1975 album “Between The Lines”, the song “ At Seventeen ” will be performed - the only artist from all the tracks who has risen to the top of the American chart [7] .
In the 1980s, the career of a singer began to decline.
However, in 1991, she began to perform again, appearing after a ten-year hiatus at concerts in the UK . After signing an agreement with Morgan Creek in 1993, Janice recorded the first Breaking Silence album after a long break. In 1995, the singer confirmed her return to musical activities with another album “Revenge”.
