The best defensive player of the female NBL ( WNBL Defensive Player of the Year ) is an annual prize awarded to the best player of the defensive plan of the women's national basketball league (WNBL) following the results of a regular tournament starting from the tenth season ( 1990 ). The winner of the award is determined by voting, which takes place during the championship and is determined by the sum of the points received by the players during each vote. In each meeting, the club's head coaches fill out a voting card, with three points being awarded for the first place, two for the second and one for the third. Since 2000, this award has come to be called the Robin Mar Prize for the best defensive player (also known as the Robin Mar Medal), which was named after Robin Mar , twice awarded this prize. The most titled player in the history of WNBL is Emily McInerney , who has won this prestigious trophy nine times [1] .
In addition, Tally Bevilacqua won the title of the best defensive player four times, and three more basketball players, Karen Dalton , Rachel Flanagan and Alicia Poto received this award twice. More often than others, the Dandenong Rangers (9 times), Perth Links and Sydney Uni Flames (5 times) and Townsville Fire (3 times) became the owners of this trophy. The current holder of the honorary prize is Lauren Nicholson of the Adelaide Lightning Club.
