Description

Small beetles. The labrum is elongated, the antennae of the antennae are simple; front coxal hollows closed; narrow membranes are developed between abdominal ventrites 3-5; middle-basal cavities partially covered by mesepimeron, trochantin developed; ovipositor of a primitive lagroid type. Included in a separate tribe Gonialaenini from the subfamily Lagriinae . The species was first described in 2019 by entomologists Maxim Nabozhenko ( Makhachkala , Russia ), Andris Bukeis ( Daugavpils , Latvia ) and Dmitry Telnov ( Riga , Latvia) based on materials from the Eocene Baltic amber . Gonialaena shares such features of the various tribes of the Lagriinae subfamily: rounded shoulder angles from basally enlarged epipleura as in Goniaderini, Pycnocerini and Lupropini; narrow acute interstitial protrusion of abdominal ventrite 1 as in Belopini, Cossyphini and Lagriini; the absence (or strong reduction) of the posterior thoracic wings in most Adeliini and some Lupropini; large eyes like those of Goniaderini, Pycnocerini, Lagriini and many Adeliini; the presence of intersegment membranes between abdominal ventrites 3-5 as in all tribes of lagriins, except Belopini and Cossyphini; subcylindrical terminal mandibular joint as in Belopini and Cossyphini. Thus, the systematic position of the new tribe Gonialaenini trib. nov. within the subfamily Lagriinae remains unclear, but with great resemblance to the tribe Goniaderini, especially with some representatives of the genus Anaedus Blanchard, 1845 [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] .
