The monument was created after the discovery in the area of ​​Chertanovo ( Kirovogradskaya Street ) of the remains of the SB-2 aircraft of the 173rd air regiment 77 AD KA air force which crashed in October 1941. Opened on October 1, 1971, at school number 629 (now closed, and in the building there is a Center for extracurricular work).

The composition of the crew of the crashed aircraft:

  • Flight commander, pilot, lieutenant Yuri Petrovich Tikhomirov (1919-1941);
  • Shooter-scorer-observer, Lieutenant Alexey Yakovlevich Onchurov (1918-1941);
  • Gunner-radio operator, sergeant Pavel Aleksandrovich Vorona (1919-1941).

In 1970, a small obelisk with the names of the heroes was also installed at the site of the death of the crew in Chertanovo, and on May 9, 1995, a memorial was opened. There is also the tomb of the commander of the crew A. Ya. Onchurov.
