Biography
Born December 29, 1940 in the family of an employee. In 1953 she graduated from an incomplete secondary school in the city of Naryn . Then, she studied at evening school and at the Medical School in the city of Frunze . She worked as a paramedic.
Clara Yusupzhanova's cinematographic education began with the A. Ostrovsky Tashkent Theater and Art Institute , where she studied from 1959 to 1963. In 1966-1968, she completed an internship at the Konstantin S. Stanislavsky Moscow Drama Theater . In 1968-1970 she graduated from the Higher Courses of Directors and Scriptwriters in the city of Moscow .
Movie Actress
Yusupzhanova's debut as a movie actress took place during her years at the institute. In 1962, she starred as Kalipa’s trailer in the film directed by Larisa Shepitko “Heat” (1963) based on the novel “Camel Eye” by the Kyrgyz writer Ch. Aitmatov . For the talented disclosure of the complex and contradictory inner world, the heroine was awarded the diploma of the viewing competition of filmmakers of the republics of Central Asia and Kazakhstan in the city of Dushanbe (1963).
In 1965, Yusupzhanova plays a small (two or three episodes), but the key role of Burma in the film “The First Teacher” , shot by A. Mikhalkov-Konchalovsky based on the eponymous work by Aitmatov. In 1966, the directors of the film “The Most Obedient” B. Abdyldaev and L. Gurevich entrusted her with the role of Gulyaim, a girl with a complex, hidden character. In “The Lodger” (1968) U. Ibragimova [1] plays the fashion model Sarah. In the 1970s, she played small roles in the films “Gift” (1974, wife) of E. Orozbaev and “Zenica oka” (1976, the wife of the shepherd) G. Bazarov . The major role of this period is the courageous patriot of Vietnam Tuang Hong in the film by A. Speshnev “Chronicle of the Night” (1972, “Belarusfilm” ).
Director's career
Yusupzhanova’s directorial career dates back to 1971, when she joins the work of Kyrgyzfilm as a newsreel director. He is preparing the issues of the Soviet Kyrgyzstan newsreel, making documentaries Osh Weavers (1973), Hello, Jailoo (1977), Kumys (1978, Kyrgyztelefilm), Shepherd and Fog (1980), City "(1982)," The Tiger lifted two cows on a jailoo "(1986)," Valley and People "(1987).
Soviet film critic Valentin Mikhalkovich noted the poetic sound of documentaries Yusupzhanova. So, the essay “Hello, Jailoo” (1977) is dedicated to the life of herdsmen and shepherds. According to K. Ashimov and V. Furtichev, “for the modest events of life, shown in the most detailed details, the highest collective responsibility of people authorized to protect and increase the national wealth is felt.”
The film “The Shepherd and the Fog” (1980) tells about the summer weekdays of Kyrgyz shepherds in remote highlands, where they are completely dependent on the vagaries of harsh nature. The film "The Tiger lifted two cows on a jailoo" (1986) about the ancient art of carpet weaving; about the poetics of patterns, their spiritual and national value; about their use in the decoration of dwellings and household items.
In the late 1980s, Yusupzhanova began work on the feature film "Airplane", in which the An-2 aircraft was to become the main character. The film addressed the theme of environmental protection. Due to the collapse of the USSR, the picture was not completed.
In 2001, Clara Yusupzhanova was an honorary guest of the 23rd Cinema du reel International Film Festival at the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris, where her film “The Shepherd and the Fog” was shown as part of a Central Asian retrospective. In 2003, she attended a film festival in the Swiss city of Friborg.
