Umbita ( Spanish Úmbita ) is a city and municipality in central Colombia , within the Boyaca Department . It is part of the province of Marquez .

History
The municipality of Umbit was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1778 [1] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southwest of the department, in the highlands of Eastern Cordillera , west of the Bosque River, approximately 32 kilometers southwest (SSW) from the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2467 meters above sea level [2] .
The municipality of Umbit borders on the territory of the municipality of Turmeke in the northwest , in the north with the municipality of Nuevo Colon , in the northeast with the municipality of Tibana , in the east with the municipality of Chinavita , in the south with the municipality of Pachavita , in the southeast with the municipality of La Capilla , in the west and southwest - with the territory of the department of Cundinamarca . The area of the municipality is 148.17 km² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 10,314 [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 51.4% of the Umbita population, women - 48.6%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 99.98% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 0.02% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 84.6%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of Umbita is agriculture [1] .
55.7% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 20.8% are industrial enterprises, 20.4% are service enterprises, 3.1% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
