Umbita

The municipality of Umbit was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1778 ^[1] .

The city is located in the southwest of the department, in the highlands of Eastern Cordillera , west of the Bosque River, approximately 32 kilometers southwest (SSW) from the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2467 meters above sea ​​level ^[2] .

The municipality of Umbit borders on the territory of the municipality of Turmeke in the northwest , in the north with the municipality of Nuevo Colon , in the northeast with the municipality of Tibana , in the east with the municipality of Chinavita , in the south with the municipality of Pachavita , in the southeast with the municipality of La Capilla , in the west and southwest - with the territory of the department of Cundinamarca . The area of ​​the municipality is 148.17 km² ^[1] .

According to the 2005 census, men made up 51.4% of the Umbita population, women - 48.6%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 99.98% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 0.02% ^[4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 84.6%.

The basis of the economy of Umbita is agriculture ^[1] .
