The early years

Born November 15, 1901 in the village. The posting of the Gusyatinsky district in the Ternopil region in the family of Ukrainian teachers. He spent his teenage years in the village of Voskresintsi near Kolomyia.

I went to high school in the city of Kolomyia . With the proclamation of the West Ukrainian People’s Republic (ZUNR) on November 1, 1918, he volunteered to join the Ukrainian Galician Army (UGA). Soon received an undergraduate degree.

Interwar Poland

After the end of the Polish-Ukrainian war in Galicia, he continued his studies, received a master's degree in political economy at the University of Poznan . Subsequently, he became a soldier of the Polish army. Later, with the rank of captain (centurion), he carried out subversive antics.

World War II

In September 1939, he fought against the Germans in the Polish army. For a short time he was captured by the Germans, from which he was subsequently released and the OUN volunteered to appeal to the Wire.

Roland Battalion

He took an active part in the training of fighters of the unit, called the Ukrainian Nationalist Armed Forces (DUN), who moved east with the outbreak of World War II . He commanded one of the two Ukrainian battalions (Kuren) (" Roland "). In mid-July 1941, the Roland went to the front in the direction of Odessa, but was soon relocated from Balta to Frankfurt-on-Oder .

201st Schutzmannschaft Battalion

By the end of November 1941, the entire Ukrainian Legion (Roland and Nachtigal ) consisting of about 650 soldiers and foremen, after concluding individual contracts for service in the German army for a period of 1 year (from December 1, 1941 to December 1, 1942) , united in the 201st schutzman-scale battalion and was sent after training to Belarus to fight the Soviet partisans [2] . The runner wrote in his memoirs that Belarusians were kind to the 201st security battalion [3] .

Over the 9 months of their stay in Belarus, according to their own data, the Ukrainian Legion (201 security guard battalion) destroyed more than 2,000 Soviet partisans, having lost 49 people killed and 40 wounded [4] .

After the contract expired, the battalion, consisting of 650 soldiers and sergeants and 22 Galician officers, was disarmed and within a month (from December 5, 1942 to January 14, 1943) was relocated to Lviv in parts. Some time after arriving in Lviv, some of the officers were detained by the Gestapo, and some, among whom was Shukhevych , went into an illegal position and took part in the formation of the UPA . The detainees were held in a prison on Lontsky , and detainees were allowed to leave the city for two people for two hours. In April, all the detained officers of the battalion were released and joined either the UPA or the 14th Grenadier Division of the Waffen SS “Galichina” [5] .

Galicia Division

The loser, after another training, became in the summer of 1943 the commander of the battalion of the SS Galicia division. He took part in the celebrations in Lviv on July 18, 1943 on the occasion of the departure of the first volunteers. In the division, Pobiguschiy occupied various commanding positions, including the commander of the 29th regiment. He was a member of the battles near Feldbach . Later, the UNA command promoted Yevgeny Pobiguschey to the rank of colonel .

In exile

After the war, he lived in West Germany, working in various sectors and Ukrainian societies, which appeared at that time in Germany.

In addition to public work, he devoted much time to political activities, in particular in the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, working in its institutions, as well as in the international organization of the anti-Bolshevik bloc of peoples.

Eugene the Escaping died on May 28, 1995 in Gaar near Munich (Germany).
