It was founded in 1881 (the charter was adopted in 1883) under the name Hoyre (Dat. Højre , lit. "Right") as the political support of the Estrup government in the fight against the opposition party of Wenstre . The core of the party was the National Party of Landowners, the National Liberal Party and the Middle Party. After the resignation of Estrup in 1894-1901, she was the ruling party and formed the government, however, she lost the election in 1901, having only 8 of her deputies in parliament [1] .

It has been given its modern name since December 1915 after the constitutional reform in the country and its association with the so-called free conservatives and the liberal fraction of the Wenstre party [2] [3] and began to rely primarily on the landlords, but on the middle class. The history of the party during the first half of the 20th century was marked by the confrontation in it of factions of liberals and conservatives.

In 1950-1953, 1968-1971, and 2001-2011, it was a member of the coalition governments, drawing closer to Venus during this period for a joint struggle against the Social Democrats. The chairman of the Conservative People’s Party, Paul Schlüter , served as prime minister in 1982-1993.

In the 2015 elections, received 3.4% of the vote, held 6 deputies in parliament. In 2016, it became part of the coalition government.

In the 2019 elections, she received 6.6% of the vote, held 12 deputies in parliament.
