History

Austin Aztex Football Club was established on January 23, 2008 as a franchise of the league, the performance of which should start from the 2009 season [1] . The owner of the club was a British businessman Phil Rawlins, who was also a member of the board of directors of the English club Stoke City , with whom Austin Aztex entered into a cooperation agreement [2] [3] . As part of the deal to get a seat in USL-1, Austin Aztex acquired a teamUSL Premier Development League Austin Stampid and renamed it Austin Aztex U23.

On March 5, 2008, an English specialist Adrian Heath was appointed head coach of the club [4] .

On August 7, 2008, Austin Aztex signed the first player for the 2009 season - goalkeeper of the year in PDL 2008, Austin Aztex U23 player Miguel Gallardo signed a contract for two years [5] .

On December 5, 2008, Austin Aztex reached an agreement with the Austin Independent School District, according to which the club’s home stadiums were determined: for the season 2009 - Nelson Field, for the season 2010 - House Park [6] .

“Austin Aztex” opened its first season on April 18, 2009 with a match against the “ Minnesota Thunder ” in the home field, tied 1-1. The author of the first official goal in club history was defender Lyle Adams [7] . The club finished the 2009 season at the tenth, last but one place in the standings, remaining outside the playoff zone [8] .

On January 7, 2010, the US Football Federation announced the settlement of the conflict between the United Soccer Leagues and the North American Football League through the formation of the transitional season for the 2010 season, one of the 12 clubs of which was Austin Aztex [9] . In the USL conference, the club finished in second place, but dropped out of the playoffs in the first round - the quarter-finals, losing two points to Montreal Impact with a score of 2: 5 [10] .

On October 25, 2010, the Austin Aztex move to Orlando , Florida was officially announced [11] [12] [13] , where the club was named Orlando City .

In September 2011, David Markley, a former Austin Aztex minority owner, created a new club of the same name , which began playing in the USL Premier Development League since 2012 [14] .
