Mar del Plata 1928 - The third championship of South America .

The competition was held in the Argentine city of Mar del Plata . The tournament was attended by 17 chess players. Played, in particular, representatives of Argentina , Chile , Uruguay , Brazil .

The first two places went to the representatives of Argentina: R. Grau won, L. Palau fell one point behind him. Brazilian chess players successfully performed in the tournament: J. Souza Mendes won the bronze medal, and V. Romano shared 4-5 places with Argentinean C. Maderna (in the last round Souza Mendes managed to win the decisive game against Maderna with black). Another Brazilian C. Pulcheriu was 6th.
