Biography

Sylvia Dördelman was born on April 7, 1970 in Waltrop , Germany . She was trained at the local Valtrop rowing club of the same name.

She first appeared in rowing in 1986, winning a gold medal in the doubles fours at the World Championship among juniors in Rachitsa. A year later, at the junior world championship in Cologne, she showed the sixth result in the same discipline. A year later, at similar competitions in Milan, she received bronze in the program of oar wheelless twos.

In 1989, she became a member of the West German national team and performed at the World Championships in Bled , where she took fifth place in the steering eights and sixth in the steeringless fours.

The first serious success at the adult international level was achieved in the 1990 season, when she went to the world championship in Tasmania and brought back the silver dignity award won in the classification of wheelless fours - only the crew from Romania passed it in the final.

Since 1991, Dördelmann has represented the national team of the united Germany, in particular this season she performed at the World Championships in Vienna , where she finished fifth in the eights.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, she was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona - as part of the crew, which also included the rowers Catherine Hacker , Christiane Hartzendorf , Kerstin Petersman , Dana Piritz , Annegret Strauch , Ute Wagner , Judit Zeidler and steering Danana , finished in the eights program the third behind the crews from Canada and Romania - thereby won the bronze Olympic medal [1] . For this outstanding achievement, on June 23, 1993, she was awarded the highest sports award in Germany “ Silver Bay Leaf ” [2] .

After the Barcelona Olympics, Sylvia Dördelman no longer showed any significant results in the international arena.
