Biography

Born into a chess family. Budovsky’s mother shortly after his birth made a draw in a simultaneous game with reigning world champion H.R. Capablanca . My father was familiar with A. A. Alekhin . During his family's stay in Paris, Budovsky took lessons from the 4th world champion.

After the occupation of France, the family moved to Venezuela.

In 1948, Budovsky graduated from Central University in Caracas . Since 1952 he lived in Costa Rica. Graduated from the Inter-American Institute for Agricultural Cooperation (IICA) in Turrialba, Costa Rica. In 1962, he defended his doctoral dissertation in forestry at Yale University . He has held senior positions in environmental organizations. From 1970 to 1976 was CEO of the International Union for Conservation of Nature . Since 1980, he worked at the University of the World (he led the environmental program, was the rector and vice-rector of this educational institution). In 2008, he received the title of Honorary Professor.

In 1951 he became the absolute champion of Venezuela (he won the tournament for foreigners, and then won the unifying match against the winner of the tournament for local chess players Hul. Garcia ). In the same year he represented Venezuela in the zonal tournament . In 1965, he was part of the team that won the Costa Rica team championship. In 1968, as part of the Venezuelan national team, he participated in the chess Olympiad .
