Baron Kilkil

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex , First Baron Kilkil

Baron Kilkeel is the British peer title established by Queen Elizabeth II on May 19, 2018 as an additional title for his grandson, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex , on the occasion of his marriage to Meghan Markle . According to the tradition established in Great Britain, male members of the royal family receive from the monarch at least one title on the day of their wedding [2] . On the same day, Prince Harry was also awarded the titles of the Duke of Sussex and Earl of Dumbarton [3] .

The title was named after the small fishing port of Kilkil with a population of 6,887 people, in the county of Northern Ireland [1] . Until 2018, there were no peer titles associated with Kilkil. The city of Kilkil (from the ill . Cill Chaoil , which means "narrow church" [4] [5] ) lies within the historical [6] . In the Middle Ages, it was believed that this was the center of power of the Irish Mugdorna tribe [7] . The city is located near the Morne Mountains and is used as a base for the fishing fleet [8] [7] . The Barony of Kilkil was created so that Prince Harry, as a potential heir to the British throne , could carry the noble title of Northern Irish territory [9] . The title of the title was discussed by Elizabeth II and Prince Harry in private conversations, but the final decision was made by the Queen on her own [10] . After a major overhaul, the Morne Park House Kilkil estate was valued at more than £ 10 million in 2008 and covers more than 160 acres; on its territory there are two houses, two cottages, stables and an old laundry building; the estate is not the property of the title holder [11] .
