Jürgen Bertov ( German: Jürgen Bertow ; born , ) was a German rower , who played for the GDR team in rowing in the 1970s. Bronze medalist of the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal , world champion, winner and medalist of many regattas of national importance.

Biography

Jürgen Bertov was born on April 21, 1950 in Berlin . He trained in the capital's sports club "Dynamo".

First declared himself in rowing in 1968, winning the silver medal in solo at the junior world championship in Amsterdam. In 1973, for the first time, he became the champion of the GDR in rowing, defeating all rivals in the doubles program.

He achieved the first serious success on the adult level in the 1974 season when he joined the main team of the East German national team and spoke at the World Championships in Lucerne , where he won the fours.

In 1975, he visited the world championship in Nottingham , from where he brought the silver dignity award, won in the pair twos - he lost to the team from Norway in the final.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal - along with team - mate Hans-Ulrich Schmid took third place in the double pair triumph, skipping ahead only crews from Norway and the UK - thereby winning the bronze Olympic medal.

After the Montreal Olympics, the Berts remained in the rowing team of the GDR for some time and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1978, he spoke at the World Championships in Karapiro , where he took fourth place in the steering decks program, stopping a step away from prize positions.

For outstanding sporting achievements, he was twice awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland in bronze (1974, 1976) [1] [2] .

Having a higher education in the field of civil engineering, in the 1980s he opened his own construction company.
