History

Information on the creation of the “Russia” block appeared in 1993 [1] . The bloc included the Republican Party of Crimea (leader - Yuri Meshkov ) and the People's Party of Crimea (leader - Victor Mezhak , founder - Vladimir Klychnikov ). The coordination council of the bloc included: Meshkov, Kizilov , Mordashov , Tsekov - from the "Republicans" and Azarov , Mezhak, Klychnikov, Savchenko - from the People’s Party. The coordination council was headed by Vladimir Klychnikov [2] .

In January 1994, at the first and only elections of the President of Crimea, the bloc was headed by Yuri Meshkov. The election campaign was led by Sergei Tsekov [2] . In the presidential election, Meshkov won in the second round, receiving 72% of the electoral goals.

In the spring of 1994, in the parliamentary elections , the Russia bloc received an absolute majority of the seats in the Supreme Council of Crimea .

During the presidential and parliamentary elections, the Russia bloc promised to grant the Republic of Crimea independence from Ukraine, the conclusion of a military alliance with Russia, Russian citizenship for Crimean residents and the introduction of the ruble zone on the peninsula [3] [4] .

Immediately after the end of the parliamentary elections, a split occurred in the Russia bloc. Meshkov, who formed after his victory a government composed of Moscow politicians and economists led by Deputy Prime Minister Yevgeny Saburov , suggested that deputies approve them as the new government. A number of deputies, led by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Crimea Sergey Tsekov, spoke out, who believed that these seats should be occupied by deputies of the victorious Russia bloc. 10 deputies, including Klychnikov, Kizilov, Savchenko, Mordashev, left the Russia bloc and created the Republic bloc, saying that they seek independence of the peninsula, rather than joining Russia [3] [5] [6] [7 ] ] .
