Round Hills ['raʊnd' hɪlz] - Russian grunge band, founded in 2003 by vocalist and guitarist Anatoly Andrianov in the city of Vladimir .

The first studio album Defile was recorded in 2005 and included thirteen tracks . This was the group’s first “garage” album, which subsequently did not see the light on the personal initiative of the group’s leader Anatoly Andrianov. The group gained popularity only a few years in 2010 after the release of the album "Spring", recorded at the studio " Dobrolet " in St. Petersburg and the most famous song "Beautiful Sun" and "Amoration". By that time, the group had accumulated about thirty songs, and the ten most suitable for the concept were selected for the album. The group actively toured the cities of Russia and neighboring countries, while simultaneously working on a new album, which was already recorded at its own studio Round Hills Records and released in 2014. The second album was called "Outbreak".
In the same year, the music video for the song “ My Freedom ” was released and immediately hit the rotation of the MusicBox channel. Theater and film actor, musician Stepan Rozhnov, best known for his role as Mikhail Zotov in the television series “ Karpov ”, and also the lead actor in the video of the Cast group “Jealousy” became the director and performer of the clip.
In 2019, the band's frontman announced that he was working on a new album.
History
After the breakup of StarF * ckers, in which Anatoly Andrianov played with Alexander Baych, the vocalist decided to assemble a new group together with other grunge music fans; Among them was the bass player and close friend of Anatoly Anton Travkin, with whom they independently built a rehearsal base and a recording studio and created the band Round Hills, which means “round hills” in English. Andrianov himself is considered the author of the name, in one of his interviews he said that everyone understands the name in their own way, but since “the moment of the group’s creation coincided with the period of active puberty, the associative series displays on the female breast ” [1] .
The drummers in the group changed several times, but Maxim Kiselev stayed the longest in the group. All major albums and hits were recorded with him. Travkin left the group for family reasons. He was replaced by a young bass player Evgeny Sergeev.
In the early 2010s, the group toured Russia and gave concerts in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Omsk, Ufa, Samara, Chelyabinsk and other large cities. The group also performs in Belarus, Ukraine and Germany, including at a rock festival held in the twin city of Vladimir, Erlangen , where Round Hills acted as invited guests in 2015: “four pop punk from Round Hills with the motto“ Feel better “conquered the stage in the final of the festival ” [2] The group impressed visitors with energetic grunge. [3] Round Hills also give several live concerts on various radio stations.
In 2013, Roman Kolesnikov, known for his Trick Shots project, a guitarist who lived in the United States for several years and was fluent in English, joined the group. He assisted the frontman in writing music and lyrics for singles that were released during his work in the group, as well as recording, mixing and mastering .
Music genre
Grunge of the third millennium [4] . Round Hills music combines the dirt and fury of a traditional grunge with the purity and melody of a new wave. Andrei Budberg, the host of Mayak radio , described the band’s music genre as follows: “This is not pure grunge. This is rock. This is rock and roll. This is blues-based hard rock ” [5] . Often the music of Round Hills is compared with the work of the Nirvana group, and even a parallel is drawn between the external similarities of the vocalists, but Andrianov does not bother him, he confirms that he personally “was always inspired by their [NIRVANA] sound, so any comparison with us is more like a compliment " [6] . Musically, Round Hills resurrects a style that seemed to have died long ago - the hurricane power of grunge Nirvana, the melody of The Beatles with a touch of Britpop [7] .
English was chosen as the language for the songs, because, according to Anatoly Andrianov, Russian is “ too poetic and harsh enough and, in the end, it all comes down to the fact that the music just needs to be felt ” [8] “If you want to listen to the grunge in its purest form “Old school, take our disk . ” [9] “ Russian is the language of poets, English is the language of music ,” Andrianov says.

Over the years, Round Hills performed with such groups as Seether (02/13/2012, Moscow; 02/15/2012, St. Petersburg) , Local H , Knyzz, Record Orchestra , Bricks , Salvador and others, as well as Ksenia Sidorina, famous as Blonde KSU (a former member of the Ellisium and Lampas groups), and the LaScala vocalist Aney Green (02.20.2019, Moscow; 02.21.2019, St. Petersburg). 2015 brings musicians a successful collaboration with the famous punk rock band Useless ID . After hard work, a joint composition was recorded [11] . Round Hills remained on friendly terms with most of the musicians, and Amplife members unanimously advised to take a closer look at the work of the Round Hills band. [12]
Project Participation
In 2018, Anatoly Andrianov took part in the non-profit project “Who Needs Grunge”, which is a research project, the subject of study of which is music itself, grunge style and its influence [13] . The authors of the film Gleb "Milky" Chilimova, vocalist of the group EIFORI.YA, and his wife Irina (KreepShow group) identified only ten figures that are significant for contemporary grunge in Russia, including, in addition to the participants, Keith Salinger, Sky Here , Mad Dog, Smalta and et al. turned out to be the leader of Round Hills [14] .
In the same year, the group participated in the reality show "Marry Me" on Yu TV Channel, on the air of which the girl made an offer to her young man at the group’s concert [15] .
Performances at festivals
Vladimir Heavy
The largest annual musical event held in the Vladimir region, the open rock festival "Vladimir Heavy Truck" was traditionally held in the open in early autumn. The last festival was held in 2016, after which it was suspended indefinitely due to the confrontation between the organizers and the local authorities, “ every year preparations for the event run up against obstacles from the police , which is always categorically against holding the festival” [16] - says one from the organizers of the event, deputy of the Vladimir Legislative Assembly Shamil Khabibullin). Kurt Cobain Birthday Fest
The largest event dedicated to the NIRVANA group is held annually on February 20, the birthday of Kurt Cobain . Round Hills often performed at the Kurt Cobain Birthday Fest and was highly praised by the festival organizers for the high-quality performance of cover versions of NIRVANA songs, which is closest to the original. The festival takes place on the main venues of the capital, in 2019, an event in Moscow took place on the head of the CLUB GREEN CONCERT , where Round Hills performed with Blonde KSU and Anya Green, who spoke about the performance with the following phrase: “I ’m cheating on my guys because they don’t cut a cover for Nirvana as cool as the guys from Round Hills ” [18] .
