Short Biography
A. A. Zemlyanukhin was born in the village of Kazinka, Gryazinsky district, Lipetsk region . Member of World War II. Since 1953 - Associate Professor, and since 1963 - Head of the Department of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry of Voronezh State University, in 1970-1973 - Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Soil. In 1964 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "The physiological role of ascorbic acid and tricarboxylic acid acids in plants" [1] [2] . In 1966 received the academic title of professor .
Scientific activity
The scientific interests of A. A. Zemlyanukhin included studies of the problems of adaptation of plant cells to adverse environmental conditions and the study of respiratory metabolism during hypoxia and anoxia [3] [4] . It was found that the biochemical method of reserving reduction equivalents and easily mobilized respiration substrate with oxygen deficiency is the accumulation of significant amounts of γ-aminobutyric acid in leaves in plant cells, the source of which is a separate sub-fund of glutamic acid [5] , and which can be metabolized with the formation of isosuccinimide β-glycoside [6] . In the 1970s and 80s, under the guidance of A. A. Zemlyanukhin, intensive studies on plant enzymology were launched. The main enzymes of oxidative metabolism of plants and their regulatory features were studied [7] . Effective methods have been developed for the isolation and production of electrophoretically homogeneous enzymes of citric and glyoxylic acid cycles. The importance of enzyme systems in the implementation of biochemical adaptation mechanisms in plants exposed to stress has been shown. The article in the journal Frontiers in Plant Science is devoted to the memory of A. A. Zemlyanukhin, in which a review of studies on the metabolism of organic acids of plants conducted at the University of Voronezh [8] is given .
