The name comes from the French novel, “ In Search of Lost Time, ” written by Marcel Proust .

Gameplay
“In Search of a Lost Future” is a romantic visual novel in which the player plays the role of So Akiyama. but because most of the gameplay goes to reading the story and dialogues . The text in the game is accompanied by character sprites that represent the character Co speaks with in the background. Throughout the game, the player is faced with drawings of computer graphics at certain points in the story, which replace the background pictures and character sprites. The story follows a branching storyline with several endings, and, depending on the decisions made by the player during the game, the plot will develop in a certain direction.
The player has four main storylines, one for each character. Throughout the gameplay, the player is given several options, and the progression of the text stops at these points until a choice is made. Some decisions may lead to a premature termination of the game, which offers an alternative ending to the plot. To view all the lines of the plot as a whole, the player will have to play the game several times and choose another option to advance the plot in a different direction. Throughout the gameplay, there are sexual scenes depicting So and the heroine having sex.
Story
The plot of the novel takes place at the Utiyama Academy ( 内 浜 学園 Uchihama Gakuen ) , where the number of new students increases each year at the school, which made the decision to build a new school building. Before they move to the new building, the school will hold one last General Club Festival in the old. Each of the clubs decides to make every effort to succeed. The protagonist, Co, is a member of the Astronomy Club, and before the start of the festival, the student executive committee asks members to reassure students about mysterious incidents in the old building. When the quiet girl Yu Furukawa crosses at the end of the school year and appears in front of So, the mechanisms of fate slowly begin to move.

- Co is a second year student in Class B and is a member of the Astronomy Club at Uthiyam Academy. His father and mother are scientists and authorities in the field of engineering. And while his parents work abroad, So lives in the house of his childhood friend. He is interested in astronomy and plans to build a planetarium for the school festival. Because of Kaori’s fate, he is keenly interested in studying medical treatment and the Turing Quantum Machine, hoping to achieve a brighter future. In the anime, So chooses Yu instead of Kaori.
- Kaori Sasaki ( Japanese 佐 々 木 佳 織 Sasaki Kaori )
- Voiced by: Miyabi Arisugawa (game), Hatsumi Takada (anime)
- Childhood friend co. She is a second year student in class B, is a classmate of Co and the deputy head of the astronomy club. She is kind-hearted and good at cooking. She lives with her mother and Co in the house, although Co's room is in a building separate from the main house.
- Kaori is in love with Co and later confesses his feelings to him. At the beginning of the series, Kaori gets on the bus and falls into a coma. This prompts So to study science and medicine in order to save her. Since Kaori was saved in the past, she wakes up from her coma for the time being, when So was finally able to bring her back to her senses.
- Childhood friend co. She is a second year student in class B, is a classmate of Co and the deputy head of the astronomy club. She is kind-hearted and good at cooking. She lives with her mother and Co in the house, although Co's room is in a building separate from the main house.
- Yu Furukawa ( Japanese 古 川 ゆ い Furukawa Yu )
- Voiced by: Yukari Aoyama (game), Akane Tomonaga (anime)
- Freshman in Class A of an elementary school, recently transferred to Utiyama Academy. She enters the astronomy club after she meets Co. Yu is an artificial intelligence created as a result of an AI unit research project that So sent to the past, October 1, several times to save Kaori from an impending accident at the beginning of the series. Yu falls in love with the future of So and manages to confess his feelings to So from the past before disappearing after the successful rescue of Kaori. This gives Co a new purpose for recreating Yu, as shown in the epilogue.
- Airi Hasekura ( Japanese 支 倉 愛 理 Hasekura Airi )
- Voiced by: Reno Kawashima (game), Kei Mizusawa (anime)
- A close friend of Kaori. She is a second year student in class A and is the head of the astronomy club. She is smart and plays a leading role in the club. She studies aikido and is much stronger than Co. Airi mainly uses kicks to fight others. In the future, she becomes an assistant to the scientist Co. Airi has feelings for him, but she hides it, knowing that Kaori loves him.

- A third-year student in class C and a member of the astronomy club. She comes from a good, wealthy family where her father expects great things from her. She is the host of the Hanamiya Society ( 華 宮 会 Hanamiya-kai ) , a special service based on her fan club at the school. She is smart and often suits the protagonists. Nagisa often reads a book in the club room and has a mysterious black box associated with the essence of Yu.
- In the future, Nagisa is building the Hanamiya General Research Laboratory to achieve his goal and give hope. Great-grandmother of Nagisa, being a researcher at a military factory, founded the Utiyama Academy after she met Yu through a time loop through a black box.
- A third-year student in class C and a member of the astronomy club. She comes from a good, wealthy family where her father expects great things from her. She is the host of the Hanamiya Society ( 華 宮 会 Hanamiya-kai ) , a special service based on her fan club at the school. She is smart and often suits the protagonists. Nagisa often reads a book in the club room and has a mysterious black box associated with the essence of Yu.

- His name is spelled "Osafune Kenny Eitarou" in the opening splash screen of the game.

- President of the judo club at the Utiyama Academy. His real name is unknown. He is very rude and lacks flexibility. In the original universe, he pushes Kaori during the confrontation, injuring her leg. During the general festival, the judo and karate club holds a friendly match.

- Freshman and classmate Yu, with whom she becomes friends when she sits next to Yu in class. She is an idol and often appears on television. Appears exclusively in the anime series.
Design and release
“Finding a Lost Future” is Trumple's only visual novel developed. Initially, the design team developed the game under the direction of the developer of visual novel Abhar, but after the dissolution of Abhar, the team working on the game formed the Trumple studio. The script for the game was written by three people: Ryo Ohta, Kenji Saito and Masaki Sawa. The character design and artistic direction of the game were divided between three artists: Kurehito Misaki, who painted characters like Kaori Sasaki, Airi Hasekura, Shiori Sasaki and designs for male characters; Shinobu Kuroya, who painted Yu Furukawa, Nagisa Hanamiya, and female character designs (not including those painted by Misaki); and Mia Naruse, who provided chibi illustrations. The music of the game was written exclusively by the composer Fugue Hatori. [2] "In Search of a Lost Future" was released on November 26, 2010 as a limited version, playable as a DVD on a Windows PC . [2] The regular edition of the game was released on February 25, 2011. The manga adaptation illustrated by Sasayuki was published in the Kadokawa Shoten Comp Ace magazine from November 2011 to October 2012. [5] Two volumes of tankōbon were released: the first on February 23, 2012 and the second on November 17, 2012. [6] [7] The second manga, illustrated by Takeshi Kagura, began serialization in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive with a December 2014 release on October 27, 2014. [8] On May 27, 2011, Enterbrain published a 128-page guide to the game, titled Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete Visual Fanbook . [9]
Anime
An animated series of 12 episodes, shot by Feel under the direction of Naoto Hosoda, was shown in Japan from October 4 to December 20, 2014. The scripts are written by Sadayuki Murai, Tatsuya Takahashi and Satoko Sinozuka, and the composition of the series is Rie Kawamata. The music is written by Fuga Hatori, and Satoshi Motoyama acts as a sound engineer. [10] Anime was licensed for streaming in North America by Funimation . [11] At the bottom of the logo in the anime title is the French sentence, “ Nous dépassons beaucoup d'aujourd'hui, et changerons le destin quelque jour” , which literally translates and interprets as “ Today we go through a lot and will ever change our destiny ”. Music
In the visual novel, there are three thematic songs performed by Miyuki Hashimoto: the opening song “Mugen Mirai” ( Japanese ∞ 未来 , Infinite Future) , the insert song “Ray of Memories” and the ending theme “Salut.soleil!” (“Goodbye! Sun) The single, containing all three songs, was released by Lantis on October 27, 2010. [13]
The opening theme of the anime is “Le jour” (Day) performed by Satomi Sato , and the final one is “Ashita Mata Aeru yo ne” ( 明日 ま た 会 え る よ ね , We'll Meet Again Tomorrow, Right?) , With three different variations in performed by Kaori Sasaki (Hatsumi Takada), Yu Furukawa (Akane Tomonaga) and both.
