Description

Small black-blue or greenish-blue dragonflies. Wingspan from 11 to 18 mm. Orbital spotting reduced. Pterostigma elongated. In larvae on the prementum of the lower lip, from five to seven pairs, on the palps from four to seven pairs of setae [1] [2] [3] .

Ecology

Larvae inhabit watercourses and standing water bodies [2] . Four species are included in the list of threatened species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature as rare and endangered [4] [5] [6] [7] .

Systematics

The closest are the genera Archibasis , Pseudagrion and Xanthagrion [8] . The genus includes five species [1] [2]

It is found in Australia , Tasmania , New Guinea and New Caledonia . The largest habitat is Austroagrion watsoni [2] .
