Dieter Gran ( German: Dieter Grahn ; born , ) is a German rower who played for the German Democratic rowing team in the 1960s and 1970s. Two-time Olympic champion, twice world champion and European champion, winner of many regattas of national and international importance. Also known as a trainer.

Biography
Dieter Gran was born on March 20, 1944 in the city of Zobten . He was trained in Dresden at the local sports club Einheit Dresden.
The first serious success at the adult international level was achieved in the 1966 season, when he entered the main team of the East German national team and attended the World Championships in Bled , from where he brought the golden dignity, won in the offset of oar fours without a helm.
In 1967, in the steering wheelless fours he won the European Championship in Vichy.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City - the crew, which also included rowers Dieter Schubert , Frank Forberger and Frank Rule , took first place in the men's four- wheel drive quadruple program and thereby won the Olympic gold medal.
Having become the Olympic champion, Gran remained in the GDR rowing team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1969, he performed at the European Championship in Klagenfurt, where he became a silver medalist in wheelless deuces, losing at the finish only to a team from the USA.
In 1970, in the four-wheelless fours he was the best in the world championship in St. Catharines .
At the 1971 European Championships in Copenhagen, he added another gold medal to the track record, obtained in the four-wheelless.
Being among the leaders of the East German national team, I successfully passed the selection for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich - here, with the same partners, I again beat all rivals in the standings of the steering wheelless fours and won another Olympic gold medal.
For outstanding sports achievements he was awarded the Order " For Merit to the Fatherland " in silver (1968) and gold (1972). Cavalier of the silver order " Star of Friendship of Peoples " (1971) [1] .
Subsequently, he achieved great success in the coaching field, in particular, in the period 2000-2009, he headed the German national rowing team.
