Biography

Born on January 13, 1921 in the village of Orekhovo (now - Kastoren district of Kursk region ). He lived mainly in the cities of Ostrogozhsk (now the Voronezh region ) and Michurinsk (now the Tambov region ), worked as a teacher and journalist.

He graduated from school number 1 in Michurinsk in 1938, after which he began working as a journalist in the newspaper Novaya Zhizn (Ostrogozhsk), was the head of the agricultural department, and in 1940 he taught for six months at an elementary school in the Gubaryovka hamlet of the Voronezh Region. He considered it necessary to destroy fascism. Therefore, a statement of June 22, 1941 on voluntary entry into the army appeared naturally. In August of the same year, Vasily Kubanev was sent to the Borisoglebsk Aviation School, where he studied as a radio operator gunner. But Kubanev never got to the front. Severe illness struck Vasily, and he was forced to return to Ostrogorogsk. Despite his illness, he went to work in a newspaper. He died of pneumonia on March 6, 1942, was buried in Ostrogozhsk . A bust of Michurin sculptor Lev Gulshin installed on his grave. After death, one of the fascist bombs fell on the grave of the poet, and the second - in the house where most of the manuscripts of Kubanev were stored.

Laureate of the Nikolai Ostrovsky Memorial Medal, awarded by the Komsomol Central Committee for the book "If you have only eighteen."

Some publications were in the newspapers New Life (Ostrogozhsk), Michurinskaya Pravda (Michurinsk), and the pioneer newspaper Be Ready! ( Voronezh ).

In most of his poems, Kubanev is close to “Komsomol poetry” of the late 1930s, in which Pavel Kogan was the most striking figure.

A large role in the collection of manuscripts of Kubanev and the publication of his first collections was organized by his friend Boris Stukalin , who later worked as editor, chairman of the State Printing Committee of the USSR and the ambassador of the Soviet Union in Hungary. The poet’s sister’s sister Maria Mikhailovna Kalashnikova and journalist Nikolai Sergeyevich Gamov actively promote the poet’s work. He died on March 6, 1942 in the city of Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh region, where he was buried.
