“Historical Russian concerts” ( French Concerts historiques russes ) is an event organized in 1907 in Paris by S. P. Diaghilev with the aim of promoting Russian music abroad.

History

Concerts took place on May 16, 19, 23, 26 and 30, 1907 on the stage of the Paris Opera . Passed under the auspices of the Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich . The concert organization committee was headed by Ober-Hofmeister A.S. Taneev . Honorary Chairs: Minister of Culture and Education of France A. Briand , Russian Ambassador to France A.I. “Historical Russian concerts” for the first time presented Russian music in Western Europe in such a significant volume. The success of the concerts was strengthened by S. P. Diaghilev in the idea of ​​organizing an even larger event in Paris in 1908: Russian Seasons .

Programs

The concerts featured fragments of the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila by M. I. Glinka , the symphonic poem Tamara by M. A. Balakirev , fragments of the operas The Night before Christmas, Snegurochka, Mlada, Tale of Tsar Saltan, “Sadko” by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov , fragments of the opera “Prince Igor” by A. P. Borodin , fragments of the operas “Boris Godunov” and “Khovanshchina” and songs by M. P. Mussorgsky , 2nd symphony and fragments of the opera “The Enchantress " Tchaikovsky ," from the Middle ages "," Spring "for orchestra and" Bacchic song " Glazunov , cantata" Spring "and the 2nd Piano Concerto op AETR Rachmaninov (lead singer of the author), the 1st Concerto for Piano and Orchestra S. I Zbrueva , M. B. Cherkasskaya , V. I. Kastorsky , D. A. Smirnov and other soloists. S. V. Rachmaninov performed as a pianist and conductor, F. M. Blumenfeld as a conductor and accompanist. The concerts were attended by the choir and orchestra of the French Lamouraud Concert Society.

The concert programs (annotations) published biographical information about the composers, their photographs and portraits of I. E. Repin , L. S. Bakst , V.A. Serov , explanations of the music performed, sketches of the scenery of opera productions in Russia.
