Gechitkale Air Base or Lefkoniko Airport (IATA: GEC , ICAO: LCGK ) is the military airfield of the Turkish Air Force in the Lefkoniko area ( tour Geçitkale ) in Northern Cyprus . Construction was completed in 1990. During the renovation of Ercan International Airport from September 2002 to May 2004, the airbase served as the main civilian airport in Northern Cyprus. The ICAO unofficial code is LCGK.

In the summer of 1998, amid growing tensions between Greece and Turkey, the latter briefly deployed six F-16 aircraft at an air base in response to Greece’s deployment of the first of four F-16 aircraft and two Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft in Paphos . Combat aircraft last visited the airport in November 2000. Later, the Gjechitkale airbase was bought by the Turkish Cypriot businessman Asil Nadir and will be transformed into a new airport for charter flights.
The only runway Gechitkale, 9/27, has a length of 2850 meters in length and 45 meters in width. The airport is equipped with VOR / DME and NDB stations.
