Johann Christoph Wilhelm Volk ( German: Johann Christoph Wilhelm Volck ; , - , ) is a German theologian and university lecturer in Dorpat , then at Rostock University.

Biography
Wilhelm Folk was the seventh of 13 children by Andreas Folk (1800–1888) [3] . His father owned a vinegar factory and was close to Wilhelm Löhe, who became his godfather. From 1853 to 1857 he studied philology and theology at the University of Erlangen and completed both courses with a doctorate [4] . During his studies, he became a member of the Christian fraternity of Uttenruthia in 1853 [5] .
In 1858/59, Folk studied Semitic philology at the University of Leipzig . After receiving his doctorate in 1861, he first became a teacher in Erlangen. He became a professor at the University of Derpt in 1862/63, 1863/64. From 1864 to 1898 he was a professor of Semitic languages at the theological faculty of the University of Dorpat and several times was the dean of this faculty. At one time in Derpat, he became one of the founders of a private gymnasium in Derpt and taught Latin there. During the Russification of the university, he left Derpt and from 1898 to 1900 he was an honorary professor at the University of Greifswald . From 1900 until his death in 1904, he taught the exegetics of the Old Testament as a professor of theology at Rostock University and was again temporarily dean of the Faculty of Theology [6] .
He was the father of the lawyer and writer Adalbert Folk (1868-1948), and adventurer and writer Herbert Folk was his grandson. Adalbert J. Folk and Friedrich Folk were his older brothers.
