Biography
Ansoald is known from a single historical source - the charter , given on behalf of King Clovis IV at the Frankish state , held on August 12, 691 at the royal estate of Chatou [1] [2] [3] [4] .
In this document, the original of which has survived to our time, Ansoald is referred to as “ vir illuster ”. It also indicates the presence at the signing of the charter of other noble Frankish courtiers ( lat. Proceres ), but apart from Ansoald, none of them are mentioned by name. On this basis, historians conclude that then Ansoald was one of the most influential people at the court of the Frankish monarch. Probably Ansoald was the Earl of the Palace, who was in charge of the royal palatinate management in Chatou, Luzarch , Nozanne and Valenciennes [2] . In other documents of King Clovis IV, three more counts of the palace are mentioned: Marceau, Andramn and Arno [5] .
It is assumed that during the assembly in Chatou, Ansoald could be a [3] .
It is also possible that Ansoald was a member of the Regency Council, which ruled the Frankish state on behalf of the infant king Clovis IV [2] .
