Kecskemet 1927 - chess tournament, held from June 26 to July 12, 1927 in the Hungarian city of Kecskemet .
The competition was held according to the scheme used in those years: 20 participants were divided into 2 semi-finals, based on the results of which the final tournaments were formed. At the same time, the results shown by the participants in the semifinals were summarized with the results that the participants showed in the final tournaments. For example, tournaments in St. Petersburg (1914) and New York (1916) were conducted according to a similar scheme.
Under the terms of the tournament, participants who took places 1 through 4 in the preliminary groups reached the main final. Participants who took places in groups from 5 to 8 - in the consolation final. Participants who took 9 and 10 places, stopped the fight.
The fight in groups was very tight and tough. It is noteworthy that such well-known chess players as S. G. Tartakower, F. Yates, E. Grünfeld, E. Kolle and D. Pshepyurka did not make it to the main final (the latter ended the struggle ahead of schedule). In the second semifinal there were 3-5 divisions and 8-10 places. Exit of participants to one or another final was determined on the basis of the Berger coefficient . The main loser of the second semifinal was E. Collet, who gave way to the main final in terms of the coefficient. Apparently, this fact upset the Belgian chess player so much that he completely failed the consolatory final.
The overall victory in the tournament was won by A. A. Alekhin. In the main final, he scored fewer points than his closest pursuers A. I. Nimtsovich and L. Steiner, however, thanks to the brilliant result in the semifinals, he was half a point ahead.
The tournament in Kechkemet was the last for Alekhin before the World Championship match with J. R. Capablanca .
