Already at a junior age, Ireneu established himself as one of the strongest athletes in the history of Andorra in all sports, competing at the level of the best skiers in the world.
Sports Biography
Junior career
In February 2013, at the age of 16, he participated in the European Winter Youth Olympic Festival in Romania.
He took part in the junior world championships in the age category under 20 years old in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The best result is the 8th place in the skiathlon in 2015 in Almaty.
In 2017, 2018 and 2019, he participated in the junior world championships in the age category up to 23 years. Five times in three years he was in the top 10, including twice being the 4th in races with a separate start of 15 km in 2017 and 2018, in the first case losing only to three Russians (Alexander Bolshunov, Alexei Chervotkin and Denis Spitsov ), and in the second case, the Norwegian and two Russians.
Adult Career
Andorra received a quota for one skier to participate in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, and Esteve Altimiras met the qualification standards, but in the end did not participate in the Games.
He made his debut at the adult world championships at the age of 20 years in 2017 in Lahti . He took 29th place in the 15 km race with a separate start and 33rd in the skiathlon .
In September 2017, he won the stage of the World Cup in roller skiing in Italy.
He made his world Cup debut on December 3, 2017 in the skiathlon in Lillehammer , where he took 45th place.
In 2018, he became the representative of the Andorra national team at the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang , where he took 27th place in the individual race with a separate start for 15 km in free style [2] . Andorran ahead, in particular, of 3 out of 4 Finnish skiers.
He participated in the Tour de Ski season 2018/19 , where he took the final 24th place, and at the last stage (race uphill) showed the 10th result [3] . This was his first hit in the top ten at the World Cup.
He played in three races at the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld, the best result being 21th in the skiathlon .
March 17, 2019 took ninth place at the World Cup in Falun in the 15 km free-style race with a separate start, second only to the Norwegians, Russians and one British.
Uses Fischer skis and boots.
