Gabriel Velikoshapka was an economist at the Kiev department and was certified in this position as β€œa person in various cases who was former, kind, judicious, and verbal ”.

He was appointed to the St. George Monastery by the rector on October 14, 1740. Gabriel was an active owner of the monastery: he continued the construction of the stone church of St. George, undertaken by his predecessor Feofan Stepansky, β€œ according to the plan and facade of the Kiev Florovsky Monastery ” [1] .

Seeing that β€œ due to the poverty of the Kozeletsky monastery from the newly built church, the lead cannot be perfect ”, Gabriel Velikapapka issued a letter β€œ to ask for money” from the God-loving charioteers from the Kiev metropolitan Rafail [1] .

Gabriel succeeded in attracting such a β€œ supporter ” as the Russian Empress Elizaveta Petrovna , who always favored the homeland of her favorite Alexei Grigorievich Razumovsky . The Empress allotted 2,000 rubles (a very substantial amount in those times); and the Grand Prince Peter Fedorovich donated 500 rubles. Gabriel managed to attract other donations; in particular, he persuaded the Kiev Colonel Efim Daragan (from the Daragana clan) to pour out the β€œ Saturday Bell ” for the Kozeletsky monastery [1] .

Gabriel died in 1750 ( according to Stroyev, in 1749 [2] ), not having had time to complete the construction of the Church of St. George [1] . However, his works were not in vain, and St. George's Monastery of Danjevsk is still functioning.
