Biography
Under Achaemenids, Atisius served as satrap of Great Phrygia.
When Alexander the Great began his eastern campaign and crossed his army through the Hellespont , the Persian governors of the Asia Minor provinces gathered for advice near the city of Zeleia to discuss a strategy of resistance. Although the name Atisius is not mentioned among them, but, according to a direct message from Arrian , the ruler of Great Phrygia took part with his troops in the battle of Granik , held in May 334 BC. e. The message of Diodorus of Sicily , who twice “buried” Atisius, is either erroneous or dedicated to another person.
After the defeat of the coalition forces of the Asia Minor satraps Atiziy, leaving several thousand soldiers to protect his capital Kelena, he went to Syria, where he joined the army of Darius III . In the midst of the battle of Issus , which took place in November 333 BC. e., Alexander of Macedon, together with a detachment of close ones, after stubborn advance through the ranks of the opponents was in close proximity to Darius. Togo was protected by the most notable Persians, among whom was the governor of Phrygia. In a subsequent clash, Atisius was killed. As Curtius Rufus wrote, “around the chariot of Darius lay his most glorious commanders, who died honorably in front of the eyes of their king, they all lay face down because they fell fighting and received wounds in the chest.” The Persian king himself left the battlefield.
After the conquest of Phrygia by the Macedonians, Alexander made her ruler of Antigonus .
