The small stupid tern [1] ( lat. Anous tenuirostris ) is a species of seabirds from the gull family (Laridae) [2] .

Content
DescriptionBody length 30–34 cm, wingspan 58–63 cm, body weight 97–120 g. The plumage of the body is blackish-brown. The forehead and upper part of the head are whitish, the nape and back of the head are ash gray; whitish bridle [3] .
BiologyThe breeding season is in August - October. Breeding in large colonies, numbering several tens of thousands of pairs. The nest is constructed from wet plant material in a low shrub or on a horizontal or vertical fork in a tall mangrove tree. The distance between the nests is from 0.3 to 5 m [4] .
Classification and distributionThere are two subspecies [3] :
- Anous tenuirostris tenuirostris (Temminck, 1823) - Seychelles , Mascaren Islands , Mauritius , Maldives , Chagos ; probably Somalia . Flies on the Arabian Peninsula , Madagascar and the coast of Tanzania ; rarely Sri Lanka and the Bay of Bengal .
- Anous tenuirostris melanops Gould, 1846 - Houtman Abrolhos Islands (off the coast of Western Australia )
