Description
Body length from 3 to 4 mm. The main color is tan. The whole body is covered with golden bristles. Antennae 12-segmented (in males 13). The head is elongated, the eyes are small, consist of one or two facets. Seta setae on middle tibia. There is one segment ( petiol ) in the stem, but the first segment of the abdomen is sharply separated by the constriction from the others [1] . Predators nesting in earthen anthills or in rotten wood. Imai (Imai et al., 2003) reported that Cryptopone sauteri preys on larvae of beetles and flies [2] .
Chromosome set 14 (2n = 28) [3] [4] [5] [6] . The mitochondrial Cryptopone sauteri genome consists of 15,367 base pairs (bp), including 13 protein coding genes (PGCs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transport RNA genes (tRNAs ranging in size from 56 to 78 bp), and one large undecoded portion of 448 base pairs (bp) [7] .
It was first described based on materials from Japan in 1906 as part of the genus Pachycondyla and named after Mr. Hans Sauter, Type Series Collector [8] . In 1963, it was included in the genus Cryptopone [1] [9] .
