Biography
The son of Llébo de Bodricourt, a knight and chamberlain from the duchy of Bar , grandson of the squire Jean de Bodricourt. In 1415, he was appointed captain of the garrison of the fortress of Vokuler , not far from the village of Donrem-la-Puccelle , replacing Uncle Jean Dunois in this post, and also became Ballon Chaumont instead of Uncle Guillaume, Bastard de Poitiers. He was an adviser to the Duke of Bar Rene Good (Rene of Anjou) [1] .
In May 1428 or January 1429, Jeanne d'Arc met Robert de Bodricourt, who asked the lord to give her a retinue, as she was heading to the French Dauphin Carl in Chinon . Initially, de Bodricourt refused to help her, because he did not take the 16-year-old peasant girl seriously, but Jeanne insisted that the captain help her and won the support of the residents of the city [1] . In the end, de Bodricourt agreed, as he himself was threatened with being removed from his post and replaced by a loyal British captain. In February 1429, de Bodricourt gave Jeanne protection and before leaving said the girl:
Go, and be what happens! [2]
Original text (Fr.)Va et advienne que pourra!
It is assumed that Rene of Anjou, who sent a message to Robert de Bodricourt on January 29, discussed with him the possibility of providing the retinue to Jeanne [1] . History has shown that de Bodricourt was right: he later became a squire, a knight and a landowner. Together with the Duke of Bara Rene Good, he participated in the Battle of Bulneville July 2, 1431 against the Anglo-Burgundian troops, but was forced to flee the battlefield so as not to be captured by the British - Rene, who did not have the experience of a commander, was captured and the army leader Guillaume de Barbazan was killed. De Bodricourt, in spite of his logical actions, was contemptuously later called the “deserter of Bünneville.”
Family
Three times married, he had seven children [3] . One of his sons, Jean de Bodricourt , became the lord of Choiseul (1433/1435 - 1499) and the Marshal of France. Granddaughter of Robert, Catherine de San Belan (d. 1501), daughter of Margarita de Bodricourt and Geoffrey de San Belan, married Jean IV de Chaumont Amboise , and already a great-granddaughter named Rene, daughter of Catherine, married the illustrious nobleman Louis de Clermont Bussy d'Amboise .
