The postage stamps of the twelfth standard series of the USSR (1976–1992) ( CFA No. 4599–4610) began to go into circulation from April to December 1976.

The twelfth standard issue was put into circulation in April-December 1976. The series consisted of stamps of 12 denominations. Initially, stamps of high denominations were printed (from 20 kopecks to 1 ruble). They were oversized. The circulation was 3.5 million complete series. In December, the remaining miniatures of the series were printed. Their circulation amounted to 9 million complete series. On stamps, the artist E. Aniskin depicted the following subjects: the order “For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR” (1 kopek), the Gold Star and Hammer and Sickle medals (2 kopeks), the sculpture “Worker and Collective Farm Girl” (3 kopeks) ), The State Emblem of the USSR (4 kopecks), the TU-154 plane (6 kopecks), the Order of Labor Glory of the I degree (10 kopecks), the gold medal named after Yu. A. Gagarin (12 kopecks), the medal of the International Lenin Prize laureate " For the strengthening of peace between peoples ” (16 kopecks), bas-reliefs of K. Marx and V. I. Lenin (20 kopecks), the CMEA building in Moscow (30 kopecks), portrait B I. Lenin (50 kopecks), Earth surrounded by the orbits of spaceships (1 ruble). Stamps were printed metallographically on coated paper [1] [2] [3] .

In September-November 1977, the stamps were reprinted. The new edition was offset printed on plain paper. As in the case of the first run, first miniatures of high denominations were issued [1] [2] .

In August 1978, the series was supplemented by two brands with face values ​​of 15 ( Ostankino TV tower ) and 32 kopeks ( Il-76 airplane against a rose of winds ). They were intended to pay for simple and airmail sent abroad. On these stamps the year of issue 1978 is indicated, while on the other stamps of the 1976 series. Simultaneously with the release of new denominations, the entire series was reprinted on coated paper, including two additional denominations [1] [2] [3] .

From December 1980 to April 1992, a number of additional issues of twelfth standard stamps were issued. In December 1980, a miniature of 3 copecks was released, on which the artist A. Kalashnikov depicted the USSR State Flag over the dome of the USSR Council of Ministers building. It was printed metallographically on coated paper [2] [3] .

In April 1982, a stamp with a face value of 45 kopecks was released depicting the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin (artist N. Cherkasov). It was printed by offset printing on coated paper. A miniature of this denomination was reprinted twice: in October 1982 - by metallographic method on coated paper and in May 1984 - by offset on plain paper [2] [3] .

In December 1982, a five-penny miniature was released ( CFA [ ITC “Marka” ] No. 5357) . On it, the artist German Komlev depicted the emblem of the postal service and the means of mail delivery. The stamp was offset printed on coated paper. In May 1983, it was reprinted by offset printing on plain paper and in a changed color - blue instead of bluish-green [2] [3] .

In September 1984, four high-nominal stamps were released at once, on which the artist Yu. Artsimenev depicted the following subjects: sable on the trunk of Siberian cedar (35 kopecks), an atomic icebreaker in ice (2 rubles), a child on the background of planet Earth (3 rubles) and the earth ball and palm branch (5 rubles). Thumbnails with face values ​​of 35 kopecks and 2 rubles were offset printed, with face values ​​of 3 and 5 rubles - metallographic on coated paper. All brands of this issue were reprinted at different times. So, a stamp with a face value of 35 kopecks was printed in March 1988 by offset on plain paper. A stamp with a face value of 2 rubles was reprinted twice: in August 1991 - offset on plain paper, and in April 1992 - in a toothless version. She became the last stamp with the inscription "USSR Post" . Stamps in denominations of 3 and 5 rubles were reprinted by offset printing on plain paper in June and November 1991, respectively. At the same time, the color of the three-ruble brand was changed - olive instead of brownish-gray [2] [3] .

In January 1986, the series was supplemented with a miniature of 50 kopecks with an image of the Grand Kremlin Palace. Its author was also Yu. Artsimenev. The stamp was printed with offset printing on coated paper [2] [3] .

The order of the elements in the table [Comm 1] corresponds to the catalog number of the USSR stamps ( CFA ) [4] [5] [6] [7] , the numbers in the Mikhel catalog [8] are given in parentheses.
