Biography
In 1912, in the village of Shcherbakovka, Melekessky district, now in the Ulyanovsk Region , Semyon Vasilievich Mezin was born into a peasant family.
At the very beginning of his career, he worked as a hammer thief. Then, after passing the tractor driver’s courses, in the spring of 1935 he began working as a machine operator on the Krasnaya Zarya collective farm. In 1938, the Moiseev MTS was formed, where Mezin continued his work [1] .
In 1939, the Moiseev MTS was transferred to the village of Black River. At the beginning of the war, Semyon Moiseevich led the tractor brigade entirely consisting of women tractor drivers. In 1943, the brigade contributed 96 thousand rubles for the construction of weapons for the front, of which Mezin's personal funds amounted to 18 thousand rubles [2] .
According to the results of the harvesting company in 1947, the brigade received a rye crop of 25.2 centners per hectare on an area of 156 hectares.
By a decree of February 27, 1948, the foreman Mezin was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor .
Before a well-deserved rest, he worked in a collective farm forge.
He lived in the native village of Shcherbakovka .
He died on August 27, 2001 and was buried in the village cemetery in New Main .
