Building
The museum is located in the center of East Westphalia , between the old town of Bielefeld and the edge of the Teutoburg Forest . The front facade of the building overlooks the Church of St. Mary in the new city.
The Kunsthalle Bielefeld building is one of the most remarkable buildings in the city. The museum was designed and built according to the international standard by the American architect Philip Johnson from 1966-1968. The building was restored in 2002 with the support of the museum's sponsors. The modern construction of the red brick building has the shape of a cube and has illumination.
Collection and Exhibitions
Kunsthalle Bielefeld is both a museum and an exhibition center. Today's collection of the museum is based on works in the style of expressionism, international sculpture and contemporary art. The museum’s permanent collection is the 20th century collection, which includes works by Picasso , Sonya and Robert Delaunay , Max Beckman , Maine Ray , members of the Blue Horseman and Bridge creative association, 1920s constructivists led by Laszlo Moha -Nad both Oscar Schlemmer , and more modern works of the 1970-80s. The museum has its own garden with a collection of sculptures by Auguste Rodin , Henry Moore , Richard Serre , Olafur Eliasson and other sculptors of our time. Library
The Kunsthalle Bielefeld Library specializes in fine arts literature. The arsenal of the library includes catalogs of exhibitions, encyclopedias, monographs, inventories of other exhibition halls and an extensive assortment of magazines. The library is a member of the working group of art and museum libraries (German AKMD - Arbeitskreis der Kunst- und Museumsbibliotheken).
