Dector [1] ( lat. Daector dowi ) is a species of marine ray-finned fish from the Batrachoididae family. Distributed in the eastern Pacific Ocean along the coast of Central and South America: from the province of Puntarenas ( Costa Rica ) to the Gulf of Guayaquil ( Peru ). The body length is up to 16 cm. It lives in shallow water [2] . This is a bottom predatory fish awaiting prey in ambush.

Description
The body is elongated, compressed laterally, devoid of scales . The head is wide and flat. Eyes are directed upwards. In the first dorsal fin 2 hollow spines. The long second dorsal fin has 29–33 soft rays. There are 28-30 soft rays in the anal fin. The cap bone has a hollow spike. Between the bases of the upper rays of the pectoral fins, there are 3–6 distinct distinct glands with pores. There are no spines on the axillary bone. Poisonous glands are connected with the hollow spines of the first dorsal fin and with a hollow spike on the gill cover. The second dorsal and anal fins extend to the caudal, their last rays connected with the rays of the caudal fin, but do not merge completely with it. The sideline is one. The upper side of the body is dark brown with irregular white spots, the belly is pale. A white line runs along the sideline. The base of the second dorsal fin is light with a dark edging. The anal fin is not pigmented [3] . The maximum body length is 16 cm, usually up to 12 cm [2] .
In the IUCN Red List, this species has been given the status of Least Concern . Daector dowi is harmless to humans and is not an object of fishing [2] .
