Description
Small narrow-bodied ants with short legs and an elongated head. The body length of workers is from 4.2 to 6.44 mm (females up to 9.4 mm). They differ in brown color (head and abdomen to black), furrowed only at the base with tergite 1 and smooth second abdominal tergite, with small mandibles with about 6 teeth, long head (it is almost 1.4 times longer than its width; length 0.86 -1.20 mm; width HW 0.75-0.98 mm), and small flat eyes (more than 30 facets). The main color is black and shiny; legs are lighter. The head, chest and stalk are covered with deep longitudinal grooves. Antennae short, scapus reaches only half the length of the head. They live in wood cavities and in termite mounds . Biology is little studied. Predators, termite phages [1] [2] .
Classification
The species was first described by working individuals from Brazil in 1925, has a complex taxonomic history [3] . Previously, it was either included in the tribe Cylindromyrmecini, which belonged to the subfamily Ponerinae [1] [2] , or in the subfamily Cerapachyinae [4] . Since 2016 refers to Dorylinae [5] .
