In 1930, he moved to Germany with his family. In 1932 he joined the Nazi Party . He was a member of the Hamburg Chess Club, played in local competitions.

He was chairman of the Society of Gymnastics and Sports Club Cuxhaven ( Allgemeiner Turn- und Sportverein Cuxhaven ; 1930-1939, 1944-1945, 1947-1953.).
