Grishchenko, Dmitry Ilyich

Dmitry Ilyich Grishchenko (1920-1998) - Soviet economic leader, more than a quarter of a century - from 1960 to 1986 - director of the Melitopol Plant "Kholodmash" named after 30th anniversary of the Komsomol (later PO "Melitopolholodmash", now "Refma"). Honorary Citizen of Melitopol (1988).

Biography

Born in 1920 in the village of Novokostantinovka in Zaporozhye.

In 1938 he entered the labor faculty of the Institute of Agricultural Mechanization in Melitopol.

With the beginning of World War II , he was a cadet of the 3rd Kharkov Tank School, who was evacuated to Samarkand in November 1941. He was left at the school as a teacher of fire - lieutenant, commander of a platoon of cadets, awarded the medal " For the victory over Germany ."

After the war he returned to Melitopol, in 1947-1957 - the chief mechanic, then the chief power engineer of the Melitopol diesel plant .

In 1952 he was elected to the Melitopol City Council of People's Deputies.

In 1957-1960 - the second secretary of the Melitopol city party committee.

From 1960 to 1986 - Director of the Kholodmash Plant named after 30th anniversary of the Komsomol, which in 1976 became known as the Melitopolholodmash Production Association.

Under Grishchenko, the plant turned into an industry giant, becoming the largest producer of refrigeration equipment in the USSR, the products of which were in demand abroad.

He paid attention to the social sphere: at the plant there were equipped first-aid posts and dental offices, an exercise therapy room. The plant provided patronage assistance to schools and vocational schools.

The main word in the life of Dmitry Ilyich was the word “labor”.

Many objects of the social and cultural life of the city of Melitopol were erected by the construction department that he created at the plant, so the workers of the plant built: high-rise buildings, five kindergartens, a pioneer camp, recreation center "Lazurny", recreation center "October".

In 1986, retired.

He died in 1998 in Melitopol.

Awards and titles

He was awarded the Order of the October Revolution, two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, medals "For Labor Valor", "For Valiant Labor" and the medal "For Victory over Germany", the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Honored Machine Builder of the Ukrainian SSR, Excellent Public Health of the USSR .

Honorary Citizen of Melitopol (1988).

Memory

In 2008, before this anonymous square at the entrance of the plant was named Grishchenko Square .

In 2016, a memorial plaque was installed on the facade of house No. 25 along Bogdan Khmelnitsky Prospect , where D.I. Grishchenko lived.
