Sights of Poitiers - historical and architectural monuments, Romanesque churches, medieval quarters, which are preserved in the city of Poitiers in France. The largest number of historical monuments in the city belongs to the Romanesque period [1] .
Description
Place Marechal-Leclerc
The Place Marechal-Leclerc (Pl. Maréchal Leclerc ) is the central square of Poitiers. Located at a distance of 600 meters from the train station [2] .
Church of Notre Dame la Grand
Church of Notre-Dame-la-Grand (French église Notre-Dame la Grande ) is located on the dance-Charles-de-Gaulle. From the train station to the church is Solfergno Boulevard, which passes into Rue Bonsen. The church is an example of Romanesque architecture. It is believed that it belongs to the Poitvin style, because its characteristic details developed under Poitou in the XI-XII centuries. Outside the church is decorated with stone carvings. On the second and third tier of the facade are deaf arcades that contain statues of apostles, bishops and local saints. On the pediment is the figure of Jesus, surrounded by the symbols of the evangelists. Inside the church there are columns that are decorated with geometric patterns. The fresco "Virgin Mary with the Baby", dated to the XII century, is placed on the arch of the apse. The figure of the Blessed Virgin of Clef, dated to the 16th century - behind the main altar. The chapel dates from the 15th century. In it, to the right of the choir, is another stone sculptural composition. The church is open daily from 09:00 to 19:00 [2] .
Hospice
Hospice House (Fr. Hôtel-Dieu ) - located opposite the church of Notre Dame. Now the building is the Faculty of Law of the University. In the courtyard of this building you can see several arcades preserved from ancient times [3] .
Palace of Justice
The Palace of Justice (French Palaise de Justice ) is located on the dance of Alfons-le-Petit. Part of the Palace of Justice is the Great Hall and the dungeon of the former palace of the Counts of Poitou and the Dukes of Aquitaine. In the period from 1393 to 1415, the Great Hall was rebuilt. Its lighting is done through a glazed wall. From the tower of Moberjon - the dungeon - only a part, the lower tier, has been preserved. It is a square building that has four corner towers, which are fortified with buttresses. The Palace of Justice is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 12:00, from 13:30 to 17:30. It is closed on weekends and holidays [3] .
Saint Pierre Cathedral
Cathedral Saint-Pierre (fr. Cathédrale Saint-Pierre ) - a building that simultaneously combines several architectural styles: the Romanesque architecture of the province of Poitou and the Gothic style of the province of Anjou. The period of construction of the building lasted from 1166 to 1271. The portal of the cathedral dates from the 13th century. In the XV century, the construction of the upper part of the facade and towers was completed. The height of the main nave is 27 meters, and its length is 90 m. The church has a rose window, consisting of 16 petals. On the upper tier of the cathedral there is a gallery with stained glass windows dating from the 13th century. Near the stained glass window there are sculptural portraits of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. The organ is dated to the period of creation of 1789-1791 year. It was made by master F. A. Clicquot. The cathedral is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. [3] .
St. Radegond Church
The Church of St. Radegond (French Eglise St-Radegonde ) is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In the crypt of the church is the crypt of St. Radegonda, dated 587. She is considered the patron saint of Poitiers. The bell tower and the portal of the facade were built in the XI-XII centuries [3] . In the XV century, additional work was carried out, and these parts of the church were decorated in the style of flaming Gothic. The nave of the church dates from the 13th century; it was built in the Anjou style. The crypt and apse belong to the 11th century of creation [4] .
Baptistery of Saint-Jacques
The Baptistery of Saint-Jacques (Fr. Baptistère Saint-Jean ) is a landmark of Poitiers, located on the rue Jean-Jaurès. It is considered one of the oldest Christian buildings in France. On this territory, the first baptistery arose in the IV century, after three centuries it was built on. In the 11th century, a narthex was added. Inside the baptistery, frescoes dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries have survived to our time. Also inside is the Merovingian Museum. It contains sarcophagi. From October to March, the Baptistery of Saint-Jacques is open from 14:30 to 16:30, closed on Tuesdays. From April to September, it is open from 10:30 to 12:30, and from 15:00 to 18:00. Closed on Tuesdays. In July and August it is open daily [4] [5] .
Saint Croix Museum
The Saint Croix Museum (French: Musée Ste-Croix ) contains exhibits that date back to the Gallo-Roman period and the Middle Ages. Here is a statue of Athena, dated I century AD, Limoges enamels, which were created in the XII-XIII centuries. It also presents paintings by Italian artists created in the XV — XVI centuries, portraits of Flemish artists of the XVII century. Among the exhibits are sculptures, including the work of Camille Claudel. The Saint Croix Museum has a single museum with the Musée Rupert de Chievere. The museum is open from October to May from Wednesday to Friday from 10:00 to 12:00, from 13:15 to 17:00. On Saturday-Sunday from 14:00 to 18:00. On Tuesdays - from 10:00 to 17:00. From June to September from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 12:00, from 13:15 to 18:00. On Saturday, Sunday from 10:00 to 12:00, from 14:00 to 18:00. In July-August on Tuesdays until 20:00 [4] .
Town Hall
The town hall was built in the Renaissance style in 1869-1876. It is located in the central square of Poitiers [6] .
Church of Saint Porcher
(fr. Eglise St-Porchaire ) was built in the XVI century. The church has a Romanesque bell tower, the construction of which dates from the 11th century [6] .
Ruper de Chevre Museum
The Ruper de Chievere Museum (French: Musée Rupert de Chievere ) occupies a mansion built in the 17th century. A portal from 1671 has been preserved from the former Augustinian church. The museum demonstrated a collection of furniture and paintings, objects of decorative art. This collection was collected by the 19th century Poitier collector François Ruper de Chevre. The museum was closed for reconstruction, and its work was supposed to resume in 2012 [6] .
Prefecture Building
The prefecture's building is located on the dance-Aristide-Briand. It was built in the years 1867-1870 in the style of Louis III [6] .
Church of Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand
The Church of Saint-Hilaire-de-Grand (Fr. Eglise St-Hilaire-le-Grand ) is a Romanesque temple of the XI-XII centuries. This church is a seminephanic basilica, with 3 lateral naves adjoining the central nave on both sides. There are five chapels in the apse. The church is located at rue St-Hilaire, 20. Open daily from 09:00 to 19:30 [6] .
Blosak Park
Park Blosac (Parc de Blossac) is located on the site of fortifications of the XII and XVI centuries. He was defeated by Count Blosac, Quartermaster of Poitou, from 1751 to 1784. From the southwestern part of the territory you can see the valley of the Klen River, and the fortifications that have been preserved in fairly good condition on the isthmus of the Tranche. In the northwestern part of the park is an English garden, which dates from the late 19th century. The garden has a chaotic layout, wells, groves and sculptures. From April to September, the park is open from 07:00 to 22:30, and from October to March from 07:00 to 22:30, in October-March it is open from 07:00 to 21:30. The English Garden, located on its territory, is open from April to September from 07 to 21:30, in October-March from 07:00 to 20:00 [6] .
Fume Mansion
The Mansion of Fumé (French: Hôtel de Fumé ) is a city landmark built in the 15th century. The facade and courtyard of this house are created in the style of flaming Gothic. Located on rue Descartes [6] . Refers to historical monuments of France [7] .
Berthelot Mansion
The Berthelot mansion (fr. Hôtel de Bertelaud ) was built in 1529. Located on the ru-shen (rue Chain) at number 24. One of the attractions of the city [6] .
Church of Saint-Jean-de-Montiernef
Church of Saint-Jean-de-Montiernef (Fr. St-Jean-de Montierneuf ) - a religious building, which was built at the end of the XI century. In the XVII century it was rebuilt - an openwork superstructure was erected, which was called the "lantern". Guillaume VII Duke of Aquitaine is buried in this place. He was the founder of the monastery, which included the church. The Church of Saint-Jean-de-Montiernef is open daily from 09:00 to 19:00 [8] .
Chapel Ipohe Martirium
Chapel Hypogée-martyrium Hypogée Martyrium was built in the 7th century. It is located in the church of the Gallo-Roman necropolis [8] .
Futuroscope
Futuroscope (French: Parc du Futuroscope ) - an amusement park, the theme of which is cinema. Located at a distance of 7 kilometers from Poitiers. Over 20 attractions related to film production work here. Among the main attractions are stereo cinema, an airplane carpet, a cinema with special seats. Demonstration of the film takes 40 minutes, sessions - in French [8] . It is considered one of the most popular French parks [9] .
