History
In 1990, the National Center for Comics and Images (French Center national de la bande dessinée et de l'image) was created in Angouleme on the basis of a decree of the former President of France, François Mitterrand . In the same year, the library opened, the main task of which was to work on the promotion of comics at the city, national and international levels. Here, all French products are collected, and part of the European products released since 1984. It mainly contains comics and hand-drawn stories. The library preserves the national heritage and forms collections. The collection of the fund consists of 70,000 French and foreign albums. There are about 125,000 periodicals. The library of drawn stories cooperates with the National Library of France and since 1984, all French comic book publishers send the second required copy to the library, and the library ensures the safety of this copy and issues it to users for a certain time. You can access the complete bibliographic database via the Internet. Since 2005, thanks to the same cooperation with the National Library of France, the collection has been replenished with foreign publications. Funds are also replenished through the donation of private collections, and one of these donors was Marvel. Copies stored in the library participate in the exhibitions of the National Library of France and in various museums. The Director of the Library of Drawn Stories as of 2015 is Catherine Ferrerol [1] [2] . A library subscription is issued immediately for a year. The Museum of Comics is functioning, which is a structural part of the Center for Comics and Images [3] .
There is a Museum of Drawn Stories, which belongs to the community "Museums of France". Its archives contain over 8,000 original pages, a large selection of alternative storage units. The library funds are stored here, in which all kinds of comics are collected. There is an information center and a bookstore with several thousand items. There are exhibition spaces. There is a consultation center. It contains data about French and foreign comics, you can find thematic publications made in the specialized press. When the library opened, the album was not handed over to readers, they could only be taken to the reading room. But in 2000, after the start of the Consultation Center, readers with subscriptions gained access to 30,000 albums. In 2012, the Library issued readers to the hands of over 81,000 publications to the most active users, which is 1,128 people. In total, the library was visited by 28,600 readers [1] .
The international town arranges internships for librarians during the Comic Festival. Librarians can learn new trends in the field of graphic literature, meet with their authors, see new expositions. The International Town also organizes the Summer Universities of Drawn Stories [1] . Temporary exhibitions are organized [4] .
In 2012, representatives of the Center for Comics and Visual Culture of the Russian State Library for Music visited the International Center for Comics and Images in Angouleme [3] .
