Came from the nobility of the Chernigov province . He received the title of master at the Imperial Kharkov University . From January 24, 1821 to 1826, he was a professor of Latin and Russian literature at the Richelieu Lyceum . He was also a librarian of the lyceum and a member of the board of the lyceum for the educational part.

From 1826 to 1831 he was the managing director of the Directorate of Public Schools of the Bessarabian region . Under him, county-level civic schools opened in Chisinau, Balti, Khotin, Akkerman, Bender, Izmail, Reni and Kiliya. At the initiative of Grinevich, two special classes were organized at the Chisinau district school, in which the most capable students, preparing to enter the gymnasium, studied [1] . He was fired in 1831 "for detecting a mess in the financial statements" [2] .

After reading on September 7, 1839 a test lecture “On the Life and Works of Tacitus ” at the University of St. Vladimir , Grinevich was admitted to the university as an adjunct with the salary of an extraordinary professor of Roman literature. However, already in September 1840, the University Council, upon the recommendation of Professor Neykirch to the Department of Roman Literature, was accepted as an extraordinary professor Döllen .

I.F. Grinevich owns the scientific works and translations: Cicero - “On the Nature of the Gods” (Kharkov, 1816), “The First Speech against Catilina” (Kharkov, 1817), “Speech for the poet Alu Licinius Archieus” (Kharkov, 1818), "Speech in Milon's Justification"; also - "Letters on philosophical subjects" (Odessa, 1835), "Life of the ancient Romans (from the founding of Rome to Constantine the Great)" (Odessa, 1846) and others.
