Hippofoont (Hippotoont, other Greek Ἱπποθόων , in some sources Hippofoy , Ἱππόθοος ) is a character in ancient Greek mythology [1] . Son of Poseidon and Alope [2] . Mentioned by Hesiod [3] . After birth, the mother tossed the shepherds, the shepherds showed him to King Kerkion , the grandfather of the boy. By order of his grandfather, he was again thrown out, but fed by a mare, and then raised by shepherds [4] . Theseus, having killed Kerkion, made Hippophius king [5] . His sanctuary in Eleusis , named after one of the Attic philos of Hippophoontis, according to Gellanic and Euripides [6] .
