Story
A young girl, Anna Moore, leaves her house in a small village in New England and goes to her wealthy relatives in Boston , where she meets a certain Lennox Sanderson, an adventurer and seducer, who turned his head to a young provincial woman. Under his onslaught, a naive girl enters into a fictitious marriage with him. Over time, Sanderson, learning about her pregnancy, leaves Anna. She is forced to return to her backwoods, but the baby that is born soon dies, just as Anna's mother dies. She remains completely alone and begins to wander around the neighborhood in search of at least some kind of work.
Unhappy woman finds a place as a maid at the landowner Bartlett. David, son of Squire Bartlett, falls in love with her. But Anna Moore in every way opposes his courtship, mindful of her failed "marriage." Moreover, Lennox appears on the estate, who settled next door and hit this time behind Kate, the niece of Squire Bartlett.
As a result of subsequent events, Anna Moore’s past is still revealed and Squire Bartlett puts the unfortunate woman out the door while a blizzard rages on the street. Before leaving, the girl still manages to say a few words in her defense and throws the words of anger and reproof at the villain Sanderson invited to the house, directly pointing to him as a seducer and father who abandoned his unborn child. Anna runs away in the raging weather, not noticing anything before her eyes. Having reached the river and exhausted, she falls on the ice without feelings. On the river, meanwhile, the movement of ice and ice begins, with Anna Moore moving towards the waterfall. David in love with Anna, who rushed after her in search of her, arrives in time for help and rescues her beloved just a minute before her death.
In the final, Squire Bartlett apologizes to Anna, the villain Sanderson is shamed and banished, and the lovers get married.
